Graduate recruitment in a post Covid-19 world.

Graduate recruitment in a post Covid-19 world

8 July 2021, 9:30am – 11am online webinar

The pandemic has had a profound impact on those in education. From schools through to universities, the effect has been hugely disruptive. A significant amount of attention has been paid to the schools ‘catch-up’ agenda but very little about the impact on undergraduates from a disadvantaged background. How has the pandemic affected their learning and job prospects? What new skills may they require for work in a post-pandemic world?

The aim of this session was to bring together a range of stakeholders to discuss the impact that Covid-19 has had on the graduate recruitment market, in particular those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.

The panel discussion:
Have disadvantaged young people been disproportionately affected in the graduate recruitment market?
What has been the behaviour of employers during a pandemic?
How should university careers services respond?
Are there any sectoral trends?
What new skills do young people need to succeed in a post pandemic world?

The panel was comprised of:

  • Andrew Bargery, Campus & Schools Engagement Leader, PwC

  • Elaine Boyes, Executive Director, the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS)

  • Janine Chamberlin, UK Country Manager, Linkedin

  • Nik Miller, Chief Executive, Bridge Group

  • Sarah Atkinson, Chief Executive, Social Mobility Foundation and Department for Opportunities

  • Stephen Isherwood, Chief Executive, Institute of Student Employers

The event took place on Zoom. A recording of this webinar can be seen below and notes and recommendations are available here.
