The Bridge Group is recruiting!

23 January 2025

Researcher (Quantitative analysis)

Are you a researcher interested in joining our small but growing team of socio-economic diversity experts?

Do you have experience of advanced statistical approaches, as well as planning and managing research activities to strict deadlines?

Have you got excellent interpersonal and teamworking skills, allowing you to collaborate with colleagues on research tasks?

Are you committed to our vision of a higher education system and labour market where outcomes are determined by competence and hard work, and not by socio-economic background?

About the role

We are seeking to appoint a Researcher (Quantitative analysis) to contribute to the design and delivery of research, with a particular focus on preparing and analysing quantitative data. The Researcher will normally be involved with research projects focusing on higher education and/or employment in relation to people from lower socio-economic backgrounds: their access, experiences and progression.

  • The role is being offered at 0.5 (2.5 days per week).

  • The successful applicant will work flexibly from home, with occasional face-to-face meetings and events in the UK.

  • We will offer a one-year contract in the first instance, with a three-month probationary period.

  • Please only apply if you have the right to work in the UK and if the UK is your planned country of residence for the duration of the contract.

  • We want our team to be diverse, so we particularly encourage people who are diverse by socio-economic and/or ethnic background to apply.

Applying for the job

To apply, please carefully review the job specification which can be downloaded here. The job specification contains instructions on applying, with a link to complete an online Application Questionnaire. You will be asked to answer four questions, which are relevant to the role:

  • Please summarise your experience of designing and undertaking quantitative research. Which approaches and programmes have you used?

  • What do you consider in identifying the most appropriate approach to exploring specific research questions? Please explain how you did this for one or two projects.

  • What research or other work have you done that is relevant to socio-economic equality and diversity?

  • Please summarise your experience of planning and managing research activities to strict deadlines. What types of delays have you encountered? How did you deal with them?

Applications close at 9.00am on Monday 24 February 2025.

We will invite shortlisted applicants to an interview by video call. These are planned for w/c 10 March.

What some of our staff and supporters say about the Bridge Group

“I find the Bridge Group a great organisation to work for – the team is curious, reliable, highly skilled and collaborative. People also care for each other and listen to one another, which I think is important in any workplace. The projects I’ve had a pleasure to work on so far have been stimulating and expanded my experience in research methods."

Dr Aleksandra Kubica (Ola), Senior Researcher (Qualitative) at the Bridge Group.

“I was attracted to the charity’s distinct approach in tackling social inequality. Specifically, the Bridge Group works directly with organisations to instigate institutional change from the inside. As such, the research and recommendations serve to both widen participation and progression, ensuring that institutions cultivate an environment where those from underrepresented communities can thrive.”

Jennifer Thorpe, Quantitative Researcher at the Bridge Group.

"It is the powerful combination of data analysis and interview evidence that distinguishes its important work, alongside a focus on evidence informed, practical actions to drive actual change."

Professor Lee Elliot Major OBE, Professor of Social Mobility, University of Exeter.
