Promoting talent: the effect of socio-economic background on progression, and practical solutions to build better teams.

5 December 2022, 12pm-1pm - online event

Building effective teams isn’t just about who gets in, it’s about who gets ahead and how. Bridge Group research highlights that socio-economic background can often have a stronger effect on progression and pay, compared with other diversity characteristics.

During the one-hour session hosted by the Bridge Group, attendees could access new research insights and practical recommendations. They also had an opportunity to reflect on their own practices.

We explored how organisations are managing talent more effectively by understanding how socio-economic background (SEB) affects progression – and how this diversity characteristic relates to gender and ethnicity.

Nik Miller, CEO of the Bridge Group with Dr Helen Wareham, Bridge Group’s Senior Data Analyst, presented our latest evidence and recommendations; and leading practitioners shared their learning from work in this area:

  • Senda Kavindele, Head of Inclusion, Diversity & Equity and Black Leadership Director, KPMG

  • Andrew Young, Head of Workforce Diversity & Inclusion, BBC

  • Sophie Hulm, CEO, Progress Together (the new consortium in financial services for promoting SEB diversity in this sector).

After the event, we produced a brief summary of key points covered below:
